Mount Heng is a 150-kilometer-long mountain range located in the northeastern part of Shanxi Province. It is one of the Five Great Mountains of Daoism. The highest peak is Xuanwufeng, standing at 2017 meters.
Mount Heng boasts several attractions, with the Hanging Monastery being the most famous. Situated near the Golden Dragon Pass, it clings to a steep cliff 30 meters above the valley floor. Built in the 6th century, the monastery comprises 40 small halls and pavilions. These structures are supported by beam constructions anchored in rock crevices.
One of the rooms within the monastery combines the three major traditional religions of China (Chinese: 三教合一 Sān Jiào héyī, 'The Unity of the Three Teachings'), housing statues of Buddha, Confucius, and Laozi.
