Hubei Shennongjia

The natural landscape of Shennongjia is located in eastern Central China. It has been designated as a World Heritage Site with two designated areas: the Shennongding/Badong Nature Reserve in the west and the Laojunshan Forests in the east. These are important conservation areas aimed at preserving biodiversity and are the largest primeval forests in central China. The region is home to numerous rare animal species, including primates like the golden snub-nosed monkey, big cats such as the clouded leopard and leopard, Asiatic black bears, and the Chinese giant salamander. Shennongjia also played a significant role in the history of botanical research. As early as the 19th century, international research expeditions explored the diversity of plant species in Shennongjia.
