The region is admired primarily for its beautiful natural landscape at the northern foot of the Qilian Mountains. Here are three large valleys: the Datong River Valley, the Huangshui River Valley, and Qinghai Lake. Among the cypresses and pines, various wild animals such as deer, lynxes, snow grouse, wild donkeys, and snow leopards often appear. The unique highland scenery and ancient customs are the highlights of local tourism. The northern line mainly consists of the Menyuan Hui Autonomous County, the Qilian Mountains, and part of Haidong District.
