Mudanjiang, known as Mudan Ula by the Manchu population, derives its name from the Mudanjiang River that flows through the city. In its 2,300-year history, Mudanjiang has been inhabited by ancestors of the Manchu people, dating back to the Shang Dynasty from the 16th to the 11th century BC. The central government began administering the area during the Tang Dynasty from 618 to 907 AD.
The main attraction for tourists is the Jingpo Lake, formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. Located approximately 110 km from the city center, the lake is situated in the administrative area of Ning'an City, surrounded by mountains and primeval forests, offering a magnificent natural experience.
