Shenzhen, with a population of 1.09 million, is located at the mouth of the Pearl River and north of Hong Kong, serving as an important seaport. In 1980, Shenzhen was declared a Special Economic Zone. Subsequently, it transformed from an original fishing village into an industrial city. The transportation network is very convenient: by rail, one can reach Beijing, Guangzhou, and Kowloon, and by road, the cities of Guangzhou and Hong Kong. There are also hydrofoils that regularly travel between Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Zhuhai.
