Shigatse, located 225 km west of Lhasa, is home to the Tashilhunpo Monastery and is a city of great religious significance. Founded in 1447, it was the residence of the Panchen Lamas, the reincarnation of the Buddha of Eternal Light. Numerous valuable cultural artifacts and murals are exhibited here.
