Site of Xanadu
Xanadu, the former capital of Kublai Khan, is located in the northern Chinese autonomous region of Inner Mongolia. Founded in 1256, Xanadu served as a base from which Kublai Khan established the Yuan Dynasty, which lasted over a century in China and expanded its borders across Asia. Today, remnants of the city can still be admired, including temples, palaces, tombs, nomadic camps, and waterworks.
