The mausoleum was erected in honor of the official Hairui, who lived during the Ming Dynasty. He was known for his constant honesty and reliability, as well as for always advocating for the ordinary people of his hometown. When Hairui fell out of favor with the ruler, he was banished to Hainan, where his followers erected an impressive mausoleum for him after his death. The mausoleum was built in the year 1589.
