The Huangshan Mountain is located in Anhui Province and impresses with its wealth of bizarre rock formations and steep canyons. Also noteworthy are the gnarled pine trees clinging to the steep cliffs of its 72 peaks. At 1,860 meters, Lotus Peak is the highest mountain in Huangshan and can be climbed. There are another 30 peaks with heights exceeding 1,500 meters. The area is crisscrossed with various circular hiking trails that pass by different attractions and viewpoints.
The central plateau can be reached on foot or via three cable cars. From there, visitors can access the main attractions via steep stone stairs.
Particularly noteworthy is Feilaishi, a narrow 10-meter-high stone standing upright on a rocky ridge. At the summit of Beginning-to-Believe Peak (Shixin Feng - 1,668 meters), one can admire the most beautiful pine trees on the mountain.
Another highlight is Lion Peak, from which visitors can see the peculiar rock formation known as "A Monkey Watching the Sea." Nearby is the Qingliangtai Viewing Platform (Terrace of Cool Breeze), offering a magnificent view of the sunrise. Various hotels are also located on the plateau for accommodation.
A Chinese proverb says, "Once you've seen Huangshan, you won't want to see any other mountains." Since 1990, Huangshan has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
